GET TO KNOW THE MAN AND HIS TOWN.

Junichiro Tanizaki praises the beauty of shadows. In his view, the eradication of shadow, the over-illumination of any space is a travesty.

I paint shadows. In the light of our world I paint shadows.

And in a blatant contradiction these shadows are projected by light. With a brush and paint I describe shadows by layering pigment on paper. When the shadows are formed they are digitized and disseminated by the internet. Reaching viewers all around the world by light emitting from mobile, tablet and desktop.

This is what I do.

My name is Sunflowerman and I am a Menswear Fashion Illustrator. I am a nomad. I feign intellectualism. I love coffee.

I'm currently in Wilmington, Delaware, a place I have come to love. My wife and I are hosted by a wonderful family. Grounded in hard work and education. Lovers of life. Gardeners, world travelers, generous givers.

They have shared the beauty of this area with us. Wilmington lends a sense of privacy, of wilderness in urbanity. The wondrous growth of trees and flowers and bush isolate the pockets of residential, commercial and industrial.

Many years ago the Du Ponts spent their wealth (and continue to do so) in the cultivation and preservation of natural beauty. Upon their many vast estates they built magical mansions and developed intricate displays of natural beauty. There's Longwood, Mt. Cuba, Winterthur and Nemours.

Nearby is the Brandywine River Valley where the heart of American Illustration was born, which began the Golden Age of Illustration. Producing the great American artists Howard Pyle, Frank Schoonover and N.C Wyeth and influencing the work of Maxfield Parrish and Norman Rockwell.

Despite the political turmoil in Wilmington's local government and the 'Murder Town USA' label there is more to love about the Wilmington area than to hate. Including the proximity to New York, Philly and D.C.

GET TO KNOW THE SHOES
NOAH WAXMAN

While strolling the streets of Amsterdam, Noah Waxman noticed a collection of unusual shoes in the window of an unassuming Dutch home. They were so beautiful, different and clearly handmade, that Noah found himself ringing the doorbell to learn anything and everything he could about these shoes. The man who answered the door explained that he had made them, and offered to introduce Noah to the skilled craftsmen who taught their artistry in the nearby city of Utrecht.

Taking him up on the offer further than he would have ever imagined, Noah settled in Amsterdam and spent a decade dedicating his life to learning the craft of traditional shoemaking under masters in the field. Returning to the US, Noah launched his eponymous line of men’s footwear in 2013, creating a brand committed to offering the highest quality product to men in search of something at once classic and unique. His love for all-American style coupled with his classic European training has resulted in a new and notable brand that stands apart from mass produced labels.

Noah approaches his design process with the intention of re-inventing timeless silhouettes through rich materials, modern hues and distinctive detailing. The results lie where familiar meets surprising, where different meets wearable. Only factories that can live up to Noah’s stringent and passionate standards are considered to produce the line. The Noah Waxman “Handmade in USA” collection is produced in small quantities using leathers from unique and historic sources such as Chicago’s Horween tannery, and feature traditional Goodyear-welt construction and hand-sewn details. The Noah Waxman “Made in Italy” collection draws upon the country’s rich history and impeccable quality standards, and allows Noah to utilize a wealth of surprising and luxurious fabrics and leathers for each collection. With a range of casual and formal styles, Noah Waxman shoes are brimming with character for the uncommon man.
